The Information & Communication Technology System Maintenance (ICTSM) (NSQF) trade is a 2-year Engineering course offered by Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), designed to develop skilled professionals in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and management of computer systems, networking equipment, and communication technologies. The course equips students with the technical knowledge and practical skills required to assemble, configure, repair, and maintain desktop computers, laptops, peripheral devices, operating systems, wired and wireless networks, and various IT-enabled communication systems.

During the course, students gain expertise in computer hardware, operating system installation and configuration, networking fundamentals, server administration, cybersecurity basics, data backup and recovery, cloud computing concepts, and preventive maintenance. They are trained to diagnose hardware and software faults, install and configure network devices, troubleshoot connectivity issues, implement security measures, and provide technical support using industry-standard tools and practices. The curriculum also emphasizes digital communication technologies, workplace safety, customer service, documentation, and emerging IT trends, preparing students for careers in IT support, network maintenance, system administration, technical services, and related fields.

  • Work as a Computer Hardware Technician in IT companies, computer service centers, educational institutions, and corporate organizations.
  • Join IT support teams to install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain desktop computers, laptops, printers, and other peripheral devices.
  • Work as a Network Support Technician responsible for installing, monitoring, and maintaining wired and wireless computer networks.
  • Get employment in government departments, banks, hospitals, schools, universities, and public sector organizations as an IT support professional where ITI qualifications are accepted.
  • Work with IT service providers, telecom companies, and system integration firms to manage networking and communication infrastructure.
  • Join computer sales and service companies as a Service Engineer for installation, maintenance, and customer support.
  • Work as a Desktop Support Engineer to provide on-site and remote technical assistance for hardware, software, and operating system issues.

  • Start your own computer repair, networking, AMC (Annual Maintenance Contract), and IT support business as a self-employed professional.
  • Provide freelance IT services including computer assembly, software installation, virus removal, data recovery, and network setup for homes and businesses.
  • Learn advanced technologies such as Cloud Computing, Cybersecurity, Linux Administration, Virtualization, and Server Management to enhance career opportunities.
  • Obtain industry-recognized certifications such as CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CCNA, Microsoft, AWS, or Google IT Support to improve employability.
