The Sewing Technology (NSQF) trade is a 1-year Engineering course offered by Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), designed to develop skilled professionals in garment manufacturing, stitching, apparel production, and fashion-related sewing techniques. The course equips students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to operate industrial sewing machines, prepare garment patterns, cut fabrics, stitch different types of garments, and perform finishing and quality control according to industry standards.
During the course, students gain expertise in fabric identification, pattern making, garment cutting, sewing techniques, industrial sewing machine operation, embroidery basics, alterations, garment finishing, quality inspection, and workplace safety. They are trained to stitch a wide range of garments for men, women, and children, use modern sewing equipment, interpret garment specifications, and maintain production quality in accordance with apparel industry requirements. The course also introduces students to basic fashion design concepts, entrepreneurship, customer handling, and small business management, preparing them for employment in the garment and textile industry as well as self-employment opportunities.
