Draughtsman (Civil) (NSQF)

The Draughtsman (Civil) (NSQF) trade is a 2-year Engineering course offered by Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), designed to develop skilled professionals in civil engineering drafting and design. The course equips students with the knowledge and practical skills required to prepare accurate technical drawings, plans, and layouts for construction projects such as residential and commercial buildings, roads, bridges, highways, canals, dams, airports, railways, water supply systems, drainage systems, and other infrastructure works.

During the course, students gain expertise in engineering drawing, building planning, surveying, estimation and costing, construction materials, and structural detailing. They are trained to interpret engineering designs, prepare working drawings, site plans, sectional views, elevations, foundation layouts, reinforcement details, and municipal approval drawings in accordance with standard engineering practices and building codes.

  • Work as a Civil Draughtsman in construction companies.
  • Join architectural firms to prepare building plans and layouts.
  • Work in government departments such as PWD, CPWD, Irrigation, Municipal Corporations, and Development Authorities.
  • Get employment with private infrastructure and real estate companies.
  • Work as an AutoCAD Draftsman using CAD software for engineering drawings.
  • Assist civil engineers and architects in planning and designing projects.
  • Work in road, bridge, railway, and highway construction projects.
  • Join surveying and land development firms.
  • Work in consultancy firms involved in structural and civil engineering.
  • Find opportunities in construction material testing and quality control laboratories.
  • Start a freelance drafting and CAD design service from home or office.
  • Prepare building maps and municipal approval drawings in collaboration with licensed professionals.
  • Pursue higher studies such as Diploma in Civil Engineering through lateral entry (where applicable).
  • Learn advanced software like AutoCAD, Revit, Civil 3D, STAAD Pro, and BIM to improve career prospects.
  • Apply for government recruitment examinations where ITI qualifications are eligible.
