The Draughtsman (Civil) trade is a 2-year Engineering course offered by Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), designed to develop skilled professionals in civil engineering drafting and design. The course equips students with the knowledge and practical skills required to prepare accurate technical drawings, plans, and layouts for construction projects such as residential and commercial buildings, roads, bridges, highways, canals, dams, airports, railways, water supply systems, drainage systems, and other infrastructure works.
During the course, students gain expertise in engineering drawing, building planning, surveying, estimation and costing, construction materials, and structural detailing. They are trained to interpret engineering designs, prepare working drawings, site plans, sectional views, elevations, foundation layouts, reinforcement details, and municipal approval drawings in accordance with standard engineering practices and building codes.
